District maintenance jobs continue

RICHMOND – School district maintenance workers have plenty to do, starting with a “deep cleaning,” Buildings and Grounds Director Steve Minnick says while walking along a quiet hallway at Richmond High School. In one of dozens of classrooms, custodian Scott Russell scrubs a mop across the tile floor. He has faced a couple of disasters in the past year. The first involved fighting the double-flood of 2019, as he worked with Hardin’s volunteer sandbag militia. Now, he does his part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus by cleaning classrooms. “It’s scary when you don’t know what’s going to come your way. You don’t know what the end results are going to be,” Russell says, adding that in addition to last year’s flooding and this year’s virus, some predict more flooding along the Missouri River later this year. Like other custodial employees, he says, “I’m just glad the district kept everyone on board. That’s a good deal, because a lot of people are going to be hurting.” School is…
