Dear Elementary creates visual expectations
To create common expectations and encourage positive behavior among students in Dear Elementary in Richmond, the Dear Behavior and Trauma-informed Staff (BAT) team created posters to be displayed around the school, in classrooms, bathrooms and the gym.
Principal Dr. Marlaine Boyd presented the project to the Richmond R-XVI School Board meeting last week.
Students notice and appreciate the little extra visual effects used in the classroom, she said. Particularly, with visual aids, students even reported developing a personal understanding of the lesson, according to flearningstudio.com.
“We just wanted to share with you that over the past year, we’ve been working on making common area expectations. So that way, it’s really clear what everyone is expecting,” said Boyd.
“Whether it’s new teachers coming in, teacher training for the buildings, or substitutes, it’s really important that we all know the expectations.”
