RICHMOND – Allen-Morton-Watkins Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution members honored the 2020 winners of the organization’s annual Good Citizen Recognition Program at Oak Ridge Assisted Living in Richmond. Ray County high school faculties select four seniors for the honor, one from each school. The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship, DAR information states. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their residences, schools and communities. These students are selected by their teachers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree, DAR information states. The program is open to high school seniors whose schools are accredited by their state board of education. Only one student per year may be honored as a school’s DAR Good Citizen.
