WEEK AGO, Missouri topped 100,000 COVID-19 cases; and this week, the nation surpassed 200,000 deaths, based on records kept by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore. Based on 118,000 reported Missouri cases and 1,743 deaths, better than 1 out of every 100 people in this state who get the virus, or 1.4%, dies. The number of cases in Clay County, 3,704, vs. the number of virus deaths in the county, 54, show 1.45% of those who get the virus in Clay die. Ray County, sharing a border with Clay County, has recorded 158 cases with no deaths.
