County opens bridge bids, fills board vacancy

Ray County commissioners recently considered several county matters, including bids for the West 216th Street Bridge project, an appointment to the Planning and Zoning Board and new internet service for the senior center.

Commissioners opened six bids for the West 216th Street Bridge project, with Hardy Holding Group submitting the apparent low bid at $329,070. Gene Haile Excavating Inc. submitted the next-lowest bid at $329,977.50.

The remaining bids were $350,480.50 from Widel Inc., $392,575.60 from Louis- Company LLC, $393,075.13 from Realm Construction Inc. and $420,107.50 from C&C Bridge & Concrete Inc.

After the bid opening, Great River Engineering representative Lindsey Chaffin explained the firm would review the submissions to verify the calculations before making a recommendation to commissioners. She noted the two lowest bids were close enough that the unit prices, quantities and totals would be checked to ensure the apparent low bidder remained the lowest after review.
