Commission approves seven-day trap range operation

The Vassmer trap shooting range will expand its operations after receiving Ray County Commission approval for amendments to its conditional use permit.

The Ray County Commissioners recently approved amendments that expand the range’s operating days to seven days a week, extend operating hours, allow additional firearm types under new safety requirements and add several operating restrictions. The single change commissioners made to the Planning and Zoning Board’s recommendation was allowing operation seven days a week instead of the board’s proposed Wednesdaythrough- Sunday schedule.

The trap shooting range, located at 31003 West 112th St., first received a conditional use permit in 2023. During the commission’s discussion, Ray County Planning and Zoning Administrator Stacy Wolfe explained the range has operated with few complaints since opening under the permit.
