Coalition discusses teen substance abuse
The 2022-23 school year was on the minds of Ray County Coalition members when the coalition met Aug. 10 at the Ray County Library in Richmond.
Specifically, the coalition wanted to ensure that county students would get the resources needed to thrive this school year (note: classes began this week at Ray County schools). Emily Barnes, a coalition director, spoke about such issues as preventing teen vaping.
During a presentation, Barnes discussed the coalition’s goals related to teen vaping prevention. They include educating parents on teen brain development and the harms of teen vaping, encouraging parents to talk with their children early and often about no-vape expectations, educating parents on the warning signs of vaping and promoting teen cessation resources, she said.
