City offers sidewalk improvement grants
RICHMOND – The city helps to address the need to build or repair sidewalks with a 50/50 grant for property owners.
“Giving residents an incentive to make improvements to the sidewalks on their property not only benefits them, but also benefits all residents and visitors,” city information states.
The sidewalk improvement grant uses a portion of the transportation tax fund for a 50/50 grant to assist property owners who wish to replace broken or deteriorated sidewalks, or install sidewalks in the city right-of-way on their property. Property owners are limited to one project per property per fiscal year.
Property owners must submit an application, along with three professional bids for service, to be considered for the program. The city will select the lowest bid and notify applicants if their projects have been approved.
Projects are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. Standards and procedures must be followed during construction.
