Chief questions delay from prosecutor’s office

After over two weeks of waiting for the Ray County Prosecutor’s Office to file charges against a Richmond man who shot someone, left the scene of the crime and was pursued by police for two days before being apprehended, Richmond Police Chief Scott Bagley is still waiting. Darren Lee Tackett, 35 allegedly shot a Richmond man in the abdomen at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 19, according to Bagley. Tackett is currently being held in a Davies- DeKalb County jail on a revoked bond from a separate case which occurred Dec. 31. 2023. Upon arrival at the scene of the shooting, the 300 block of West Buchanan Street, officers located a man who had been shot at least one time. The victim was transported to a Kansas City area hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound. After undergoing extensive surgeries, the department was informed the victim was in stable condition and expected to make a recovery, Bagley said.
