Spreading awareness during National Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) volunteer Amy Pearson is hoping to educate local residents. “This is a time to recognize the importance of responsible pet ownership and the numerous benefits of spaying and neutering your furry friend,” said Pearson. In 2013, Banfield Pet Hospitals conducted a study with 2.2 million dogs and 460,000 cats reflecting similar findings, concluding neutered male dogs lived 18% longer and spayed female dogs lived 23% longer. Spayed female cats in the study lived 39% longer and neutered male cats lived 62% longer. Pearson advocates for pets and gives reasons to have your pet spayed and neutered: • Your dog or cat will be better behaved and less likely to roam, howl, spray and jump the fence.
