Spreading awareness during National Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) volunteer Amy Pearson is hoping to educate local residents. “This is a time to recognize the importance of responsible pet ownership and the numerous benefits of spaying and neutering your furry friend,” said Pearson. In 2013, Banfield Pet Hospitals conducted a study with 2.2 million dogs and 460,000 cats reflecting similar findings, concluding neutered male dogs lived 18% longer and spayed female dogs lived 23% longer. Spayed female cats in the study lived 39% longer and neutered male cats lived 62% longer. Pearson advocates for pets and gives reasons to have your pet spayed and neutered: • Your dog or cat will be better behaved and less likely to roam, howl, spray and jump the fence. Dogs and cats become calmer, more content, less aggressive and aren’t inclined to wander from home in search of a mate. Surveys indicate as many as 85% of dogs hit by cars are unaltered. • Your…
