Bark Bargains’ bargains support area animal shelters

RICHMOND – A store by and for people to benefit animals opened Sept. 1 at 112 S. College St. Bark Bargains Thrift Shop, operated by Jenifer Dickson, benefits the Autumn Acres Animal Rescue facility. “Which is the animal rescue I’ve helped run since 2004,” Dickson said Saturday. The non-profit animal facility is just outside Richmond, she said. “Most of our animals come from shelters. They were going to be euthanized, because they weren’t perfect at the shelter – they were hiding, they were scared, trembling in fear. People don’t want dogs like that,” Dickson said. The facility is always at capacity, which is from 30 to 35 dogs, she said. “There’s usually a waiting list,” Dick “There’s usually a waiting list,” Dickson said. The store is not designed to enrich people, but to aid such animals. “All proceeds support the rescue. Nothing is going to us personally,” Dickson said.
