Capital sights, survivor stories leave lasting impact
For Richmond Middle School eighth-graders, this year’s trip to the nation’s capital brought American history to life in ways no textbook ever could.
From standing beneath the Washington Monument to visiting the Holocaust Museum, students spent four days immersed in the stories, landmarks and lessons that shaped the United States.
The trip, organized annually by teacher Brenda Hamm, remains a signature event for Richmond students. Though weather and travel challenges tested the group’s stamina, Hamm said the students rose to the occasion.
“We had a wonderful trip,” said Hamm. “Our trip home was challenging, but these students are such blessings to others. God is good.”
The journey began with a full day of iconic sites and solemn memorials. Students visited the American History Museum, Pentagon Memorial, Air Force Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Washington Monument.
