King, Johnson look to finish TF careers on awards podium
Richmond seniors Kaylee King and Jacob Johnson want to finish their respective high school track and field careers in Jefferson City.
As has been the case for many years, Jefferson City will host state track competition. King, who has signed to compete for the women’s track program at the University of Central Missouri (UCM), looks to make her third trip to state.
“I’m very excited,” King said March 21.
Last season, King qualified for the Class 3 girls meet in four events. She received medals in two of them, placing sixth in the triple jump and eighth in the 100-meter high hurdles. In 2023, King qualified for Class 3 state competition in the 100 hurdles.
King likes her progress as she works to qualify for state again.
“I feel like I’m faster and I’m going to definitely be able to jump farther,” she said. “I feel like I’ve learned the techniques more.”
