H-C girls enter hoops season ‘full go’

Tommy Burton, Hardin-Central’s new varsity girls basketball coach, found he didn’t have to do much refresher work with his Bulldogs when preseason practices began in late October. “When the (winter sports) season came around, we were … full go,” said Burton, a Hardin-Central alumnus, following a Nov. 7 practice in the schoolhouse gym. “We’re not working on fundamental stuff; we’re not working on our shots – trying to get them back. We’re full board.” Burton attributed the team’s readiness to hit the court running to the time the girls had devoted to basketball during the summer, including their participation in a summer league hosted by Crest Ridge and some combined practices with Orrick. He also attributed it to their participation in voluntary team activities offered during October. “It’s huge when you come in in October and you don’t have a lot of cobwebs to knock off,” Burton said.
