Franklin was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Richmond, the son of Philip Thomas and Nealy (Lyle) Herod. He was united in marriage to Betty Sue Bellis of Richmond on Jan. 31, 1953. She preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2015.

Survivors include his son, Kenneth Wayne Herod of Highland Village, Texas; and four daughters, Linda Sue (Richard) Phillips of Pittsburg, Connie Sue (Tony) Smith of Grand Pass, Nancy Ann (Kent) Hisle of Richmond and Rhonda Elaine (Lloyd) of Alva, Okla. Five grandchildren, Monica, Kristen, Stacy, Joni and Kellie; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife, Franklin was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Willard; five brothers, Chester, Claud, George, John and Calvin; and four sisters, Elizabeth, Dorthy, Mable and Grace.

Franklin was raised and educated in the area of his birth and attended Richmond High School. He worked for General Motors for more than 30 years before retiring in 1987.

Franklin farmed his whole life. He enjoyed taking care of his cows and bailing hay.

He especially loved his children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and other family members.

Franklin was a devoted family man of the Christian faith. He first attended the Richmond Church of the Nazarene, but later found his home at the Excelsior Springs Church of the Nazarene. Franklin was a treasurer in his church and had a servant’s heart.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Excelsior Springs Church of the Nazarene. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 13, at the Excelsior Springs Church of the Nazarene, with visitation beginning at noon, followed by the services at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
