Hoeper helms seasoned H-C squad
Hardin-Central had a coaching turnover between varsity boys basketball seasons.
The Bulldogs, however, had little player turnover.
August Hoeper became Hardin-Central’s new coach during the offseason. Hoeper succeeds Brent Behler, for whom Hoeper served as an assistant. Behler is the new head varsity boys coach at Braymer, which Hardin-Central is scheduled to host Dec. 21.
Hoeper inherits a program that returns all but one player from last season’s Class 1 District 13 runner-up team – J.W. Doyle, who graduated in May.
“We’re filling his role in now,” Hoeper said Nov. 9.
Those returners include seniors Drew Hawkins and Kameron Pugh, who worked with Hoeper during the summer. Pugh saw progress between the summer, when the Bulldogs’ activities included summer-league play at Lawson, and the second week of preseason practices, when he was interviewed.
“I think summer just helped us improve and got us to be where we’re at right now,” Pugh said.
