Sheriff builds office for internet crimes detective

Entry into the Ray County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), it may look a little different as a new office has been built. Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers built an office or Detective Josh Hamner in what used to be the RCSO lobby area. The office will soon receive finishing touches and be filled with equipment, computers and lab technology, he said. “An inmate in the Inmate Work Program and I built it out,” said the sheriff. “We have to utilize what we have – we aren’t getting a new jail anytime soon.” After getting hired by the county last year, Hamner works with Ray County’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The sheriff said Hamner needed a specific area for him and the forensic laboratory work. Hamner’s duties include extracting data from electronic devices and other evidence. This ICAC Task Force covers Ray, Clay, Caldwell, Lafayette, Pettis, Slaine, Carroll and Livingston counties. The ICAC program was developed in response to the increasing number of children and…
