Security camera proposal faces pushback
What began as a courthouse security upgrade expanded into a broader proposal, covering several county offices. However, commissioners ultimately tabled the $44,553.20 camera system due to funding and privacy concerns.
Victory Technology Owner Evan Allen and Ray County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant David Francken presented the proposal to commissioners during a recent meeting,. While the initial request focused on adding cameras to the courthouse, the discussion expanded to include additional county properties, prompting debate over funding sources, system oversight and privacy considerations raised by several officeholders.
Allen told commissioners most pricing remained stable during his follow-up with vendors, but he flagged an upcoming increase tied to server hardware components.
“One of the things I did was research all the equipment we proposed with the vendors and manufacturers to be sure there would be no price increases,” said Allen.
