Road districts seek clarity on bridge funding, responsibility
Ray County commissioners recently met with special road district leaders and county officials to discuss ongoing questions surrounding the funding, inspection and maintenance of roads and bridges across the county.
Commissioner Max Hockemeier, who works closely with road districts, said officials continue to receive questions about financial responsibility for bridges.
“It seems we have a lot of questions about whose responsibility the bridges are, where the money comes from, how much money we are supposed to get, and what the money is supposed to be used for,” said Hockemeier.
He added uncertainty has intensified as several bridges across the county require attention, including a bridge on Buffalo Road that was closed following an inspection earlier this year and another structure near Shack Creek showing signs of deterioration.
