Richmond Fire Department replaces rescue truck

RICHMOND – Richmond Fire Department has a new vehicle to assist the public in times of crisis. The department bought a Ford F-550 vehicle, fire Capt. Zeb Williams said. “It’s our Rescue 3 (vehicle). It runs all our medical calls and car wrecks – any type of rescue,” he said. There are advantages to using the rescue vehicle versus on of the larger fire trucks. “It’s set up differently than a pumper truck or an engine, like it doesn’t have a big water tank on it,” Williams said. “It’s got some water on it, but not as much as our pumpers do.” The setup involves equipment available for use by firefighters arriving at an emergency scene, Williams said. “It carries the type of tools we need for car wrecks. It carries our extrication tools on it and it carries our medical equipment,” he said. “It’s just a different type of truck, the way that it’s built … for running those types of calls.
