MDC seeks public input for regulation change

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is inviting public comments on a proposed regulation change for walleye and sauger fishing. The deadline for comments is January 31, 2025. If approved, this change would permit anglers across the state to catch and keep these species during the spring spawning months, specifically before sunrise and after sunset. MDC’s Walleye Working Group recommends removing the following regulation regarding walleye and sauger from the Wildlife Code of Missouri: “Walleye and sauger may be caught and possessed throughout the year, except from Feb. 20 to April 14. During this closed period, fishing for walleye and sauger is allowed only from onehalf hour before sunrise to onehalf hour after sunset in the Swan Creek Arm of Bull Shoals Lake, above Highway 160, and in the unimpounded portions of all streams, excluding the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.
