Hospital administrator announces retirement; plans to stay in Richmond

After 48 years in the hospital industry, Earl Sheehy is ready to move on. Recently, Sheehy announced his retirement from Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, where he’s served as the administrator for eight years – his longest stint at one facility, he said. His last day will be in September, when Jeff Bloemker will succeed him. Sheehy has “enjoyed (his) time” at the hospital, he said. “It’s a great facility,” Sheehy said happily. “Great staff.” HOW IT BEGAN Sheehy’s long career in hospital administration resulted from “stumbling” into an opportunity to work in the industry, he said. It also followed an attempt to work in the hospitality industry. A hotel administration major at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he had to do a clerkship at a hotel his senior year, he recalled.
