Extra funds for city audit approved

The city of Richmond will pay $6,790 more than expected for the 2023 fiscal year audit. City Finance Director Dawn Jennings explained the March invoice submitted by Westbrook & Co. P.C. for the firm’s auditing work totaled $30,790. Initially, the city had earmarked $24,000 for the audit, as approved by the city council. Last week, the city council approved designating $6,790 more to cover all costs. Per an agreement between the city and Westbrook for the firm to audit the city for fiscal years 2022-26, the cost of the fiscal year 2023 audit was to have a $24,000 cap, according to Jennings. However, the contract also states “additional fees may be charged for significant changes in the audit scope or unexpected circumstances,” she noted. The extra fees were needed for compliance with two requirements by the Governmental Accountability Standards Board (GASB), Jennings explained.
