Council approves additional funding for wastewater system
Concerns over wastewater system reliability prompted Richmond City Council members to approve an additional $10,000 for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) support services after compatibility issues and hardware failures exhausted the city’s original agreement.
Council Member Ron Peterson said the city has now exhausted the original agreement approved late last year for SCADA support services at the wastewater treatment plant.
“Back in December, we executed a time and expense not to exceed agreement with Olson for the wastewater treatment plant, SCADA support services,” said Peterson. “We have spent that money and nothing really to do with the on-call services. That’s a whole separate thing.”
He noted additional costs were tied to compatibility issues that emerged after the city upgraded the wastewater treatment plant’s SCADA system from Windows 10 to Windows 11. The transition caused system instability,requiring additional troubleshooting and adjustments.
