Commission weighs health plan increases amid market changes
The Ray County Commission recently reviewed health insurance renewal options as John Hickman, benefits advisor with Health Insurance Cooperative Agency Inc., presented rate information and carrier responses. Commissioners agreed to table the matter for one week to allow additional quotes to be received.
Hickman distributed renewal documents from Excel Health Plans and explained United Healthcare and Aetna have exited the market for government entities, leaving limited coverage options. He noted the county currently has access to level-funded or fully insured plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City and Blue Cross was still processing underwriting information.
“I’ve had all the data submitted since August for our group to get a quote,” said Hickman. “They wouldn’t release a quote until we got the renewal. I got the renewal about two days ago and shipped it over to Blue Cross.”
