Ceremony honors Veteran service, lasting sacrifice
Community members in Richmond recently came together to honor generations of men and women who have worn the nation’s uniform, joining in prayer, music and remembrance during a Veterans Day ceremony.
The event, held at the Ray County Courthouse lawn and organized by American Legion Post 237, featured songs from local students, prayers for peace, remarks from state and local leaders and a special recognition for Ray County’s oldest living World War II veteran.
The ceremony opened with the posting of colors by the Ray County Veterans, followed by the national anthem performed by the Richmond High School Band directed by Andrew Dunker. The Sunrise Elementary School Singers then led the Pledge of Allegiance before the invocation began.
Chaplain Darrin Daniel opened the ceremony with a prayer setting the tone for reflection and gratitude.
