Backyard epiphany leads to Hardin-based business

Beth Fortin got inspired to start her own business, Little Green Garden LLC in Hardin, by her own backyard. In 2013, Fortin was in her yard with one of her sons, Owen. Gardening together in Prairie Village, Kansas, then, she asked him what he wanted to do to celebrate his birthday. “Garden,” he replied. As someone who had always loved gardening and wondered what she would do when her then-youngest child started school, the moment was “an epiphany,” Fortin said. “(I realized) I could do this for a living,” she said. “I could grow flowers, like I had so many times, but solely for the purpose of selling cut flowers – and I could do it with my kids.” Multiple family visits to the Overland Park (Kansas) Farmer’s Market inspired Fortin, too.
