Windsor, ’Cats manage the elements, win dual

The weather made its presence felt when Orrick faced Faith Christian Academy in an April 2 boys golf dual at the Excelsior Springs Golf Course, Orrick senior Trent Windsor acknowledged. “You can’t really ignore 30-, 40-mph winds,” Windsor said early in his nine-hole round. “The ground’s a little wet, so the ball’s coming out a little hot.” Windsor, however, was confident he and his teammates could “adjust to” the wind and the grass, made wet by the rainfall that week. And indeed, he adapted well enough to finish as the medalist, shooting a 50 (+14) for the par-36 round. In doing so, he led the Bearcats to a four-stroke victory. “The conditions were difficult, but the boys held strong and came out on top,” Orrick coach Matt Swigert stated via email. Sophomore Landon Smith, junior Trent Mahurin and senior Alan Atkins also contributed to Orrick’s team score, 219. Smith shot a 51 (+15). His round included a par on his seventh hole.
