Volleyballers see season-ending loss as motivation
CAMERON – With Richmond’s 3-0 Oct. 23, season-ending road loss to topseeded Cameron in the Class 3 District 16 Tournament semifinals, varsity volleyball coach Crystal Turner hoped the Spartans saw in the Dragons the kind of program they can become.
“They just need to work,” Turner said. “I mean, it’s just going to take skillbuilding, it’s going to take hard offseason training and we can get there. We have the potential to get there. We just need to develop it.”
The Spartans also achieved a moral victory by facing the Dragons, “just because we all improved throughout the season,” sophomore setter and outside hitter Laney Moyer said.
“And it wasn’t like we ended terribly,” Moyer said.
Although the Spartans “could’ve passed better and fought better,” it was a moral win “in a lot of ways,” Turner said.
