The Spartans wowed Richmond varsity basketball coach Kevin Jermain with the first half of their 79-62 Richmond Winter Classic championship win over Bishop LeBlond of St. Joseph Jan. 28 – a half that included a 27-2 Richmond run. With LeBlond leading the meeting at Richmond High School 9-6, senior guard Donivin Williams started the run with a two-point bucket midway through the first quarter. The run stretched past midway through the second quarter. Richmond went on to lead 45-17 at halftime. Jermain told the Spartans at halftime that the “first half was absolutely as good as we can play” and “there’s nobody that’s going to be able to beat them,” if they can play that well going forward, he said. “That was a great team (effort) that first half,” Jermain said. Senior post player Jack Gogue, who paced Richmond with 25 total points and was named tournament Most Valuable Player, called it a “really fun first half.” “We were all in a groove, playing good defense, hitting everything,”…
