On Tuesday, Richmond varsity football coach Nick Persell and his Spartans got to face opposing schools for the first time in months, albeit under different conditions than the regular season. That morning, the Spartans participated in 7-on-7 scrimmages at Tiger Stadium – the first of three Tuesday 7-on-7 sessions scheduled this month. Richmond was among five schools that participated in the no-pads, no-helmets scrimmaging. Excelsior Springs, Kearney, St. Pius X of Kansas City and Kearney completed the group. Like many 7-on-7 events, Tuesday’s scrimmages consisted of offenses rotating in and out and passing the ball against a defense for a set number of plays. Those who were part of Richmond’s passing attack included Jacob Johnson and Jacob Lieberknecht, who traded reps at quarterback; and Chris Webb, who got reps as a wideout.
