RHS netters carry on after De Hesselle’s depature

Richmond coach Brett Terry expects some of his Spartans to notice a void this varsity boys tennis season, which began Monday with a 5-4 dual road win to Knob Noster in Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division play. “I think that some of the guys who played last year are going to see how good and how much Felix ( De Hesselle) really meant to the team,” Terry said March 11 during practice at Maurice Roberts Park in Richmond. An international exchange student from Germany, De Hesselle was Richmond’s top singles player in 2023. He also qualified for the Class 1 state tournament. With Hesselle gone, Terry expects the attitude among his returning players to “be a lot more (of), ‘Hey, we need to build up from where we’re at … before we can expect to beat a lot of teams,’” he said.
