Persell likes passing game as Spartans enter dead period

Richmond varsity football coach Nick Persell and his Spartans are ready for a break. They’re about to get one. Starting Friday and running through July 9, all Richmond interscholastic sports programs will be in a summertime dead period, per requirements by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA). Conditions for dead periods include the absence of contact “between school coaches/directors of MSHSAAsponsored activities and students enrolled in the member school,” MSHSAA information states. The gridiron Spartans enter the dead period after three weeks of Monday 7-on-7 practices, Tuesday morning offensive/ defensive line practices at the high school and Tuesday morning 7-on-7 scrimmages at Excelsior Springs. Their last session of 7-on-7 scrimmages was Tuesday.
