Loftin leaves prep career with state medal in hurdles

JEFFERSON CITY – Richmond graduate Dayne Loftin “loved every second of” his high school track and field career, he said. Loftin, however, admitted he would’ve loved it even more if it had ended differently. For Loftin, who graduated May 14 and said he plans to study computer science at the University of Missouri at Columbia, his last race was the finals of the boys 110-meter hurdles at the Class 3 state meet, held May 26-27 at Jefferson City High School. He finished seventh in 15.48 seconds. “(I) just had a disappointing end,” he said minutes after receiving his seventh-place medal. It was Loftin’s second straight appearance at state – and second straight season to receive a medal for finishing in the top eight. In 2022, he finished fifth in the 110s. “I was hoping to get that again, but (that was) not the way it fell,” Loftin said.
