King, Johnson help lead RHS as track season gets underway

Last week provided a few measuring sticks for Richmond track coach David Rash and his staff. The week was the season opener for the Spartans, who participated in two meets: the UCM High School Mule Relays, a March 18 indoor-outdoor meet at Warrensburg; and the Richmond Invitational, held March 21. Both meets “allowed us to evaluate the team and help make some decisions moving forward,” Rash stated Tuesday via email. Juniors Kaylee King and Jacob Johnson wracked up top-four finishes while they were being evaluated at Warrensburg. King, a Class 3 state-qualifying hurdler in 2023, took third in the girls 60-meter hurdles and high jump. Johnson placed fourth in the boys long jump. King and Johnson also were two of three individual champions for the Spartans at their own meet. King won the triple jump by leaping 10.78 meters. She also took second in the long jump and third in the 300 low hurdles. Johnson won the long and triple jumps by leaping 5.89 and 13.1, respectively. In other…
