Gogue goes for gridiron after high school

Another Spartan is trading his Richmond red and white for New Mexico State University crimson and white. Senior Jack Gogue has agreed to play football at New Mexico State, an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision program that will join Conference USA in July after a brief stint as an independent school. He formally signed his letter of intent Feb. 1 in the Richmond High School gym, Activities Director Matt Habermehl confirmed Feb. 3 via email. Gogue, a three-sport athlete at Richmond, visited the Las Cruces-based school in late January. The visit “was pretty cool,” he recalled during a Jan. 28 interview after helping the Spartans win the Richmond Winter Classic in varsity boys basketball. “I like it (there) a lot,” Gogue said. “A lot of mountains, and the team’s turning around. It’s becoming a really good culture and (I’m) looking forward to it.” Gogue will join former Richmond teammate Keyshaun Elliott at New Mexico State.
