Baseballers go through ‘roller coaster’ stretch
Richmond has been “riding a roller coaster” lately in varsity baseball, according to coach Zach McGill.
“When we show up, we’re as good as anybody,” McGill said April 9. “Right now, we’re fighting that a little bit – just trying to find some consistency.”
Last week, the roller coaster ride took a dip in the form of four straight losses – three of them at home. The Spartans opened the week April 6 with a 7-3 defeat by Knob Noster in nine innings at Southview Park. Richmond was leading entering the seventh inning “and just kind of let things slip away,” McGill recalled.
“We did well in the Knob Noster game,” he said. “They’re always a tough team.”
On April 7, Richmond lost to visiting Clinton 12-6. The Spartans then tumbled 22-0 in four innings April 9 at Southview to Benton, a St. Joseph-based school. For the Spartans, the meeting with Benton was their second straight day to play a team nicknamed the Cardinals.
