Edith Lenora “Nonie” Clemenson, 90, of Richmond passed away peacefully Saturday, July 18, 2026, at her home. Nonie was born April 3, 1936, in Clay County, the daughter of Emery Eugene and Ruby Jean (Cunningham) Aubrey. She was first united in marriage to Bud Conwell of Kansas City in November of 1952. They later divorced. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Earl Clemenson of Kansas City on April 30, 1967. He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2014. Survivors include two sons, Michael Conwell of Kansas City and Chris Conwell of Eminence; and two daughters, Laina (George) Scamman of Hamilton and Robbin (Ron) Cole of Richmond.

Other survivors include six grandchildren: Whitney (Darren) Hosman, Jared Scobee, Leslyn (Dallas) Berg, Mallory (Colby) Bowers, Madison (Grant) Burns and Angela Conwell. She also is survived by her great-grandchildren: Huxley Hosman, Laikynn Berg, Dausynn Berg, Embrey Burns and Boone Bowers.

In addition, she is survived by two brothers, Gene (Lois) Aubrey of Pickerington, Ohio, and Randy (Diane) Aubrey of Kansas City; and a sister, Sue Aubrey of Kearney.

Nonie was preceded in death by her mother and daddy; husband, Bob, whom she missed so much; three brothers, Elmer, Jerry and Keith Aubrey; and two sisters, Lola Easley and LaVita Briones.

Nonie was raised and educated in Kansas City, where she attended Hoy Elementary School before graduating in 1953 from North Kansas City High School.

She was a hard-working woman throughout her life, beginning her career at Atlas Glass in North Kansas City before serving the families of Ray County as a social worker with the Department of Family Services in Richmond. Never one to shy away from work, she also spent time as a school bus driver and an Avon representative, making friends everywhere she went.

Even though she held many jobs over the years, the role she treasured above all others was caring for those she loved. Nonie was the heart of her family, their matriarch, their “Kin Keeper” – and as many would say, the glue that held everyone together.

She had an incredible gift for making every member of the Aubrey clan feel deeply loved, important and valued. In her eyes, they could do no wrong. She was the peacemaker, the encourager and the one everyone could count on to keep the family connected through every season of life.

Her greatest love story was the one she shared with her husband Bob. Their marriage was the foundation of her life; and even after his passing, she often said, “I miss my Bob so much.” Her love and devotion to him never faded, and she carried his memory in her heart every day.

Nonie found joy in sharing stories of days gone by. Often, she began them with her favorite saying: “I can see it in my mind’s eye.”

She was a beloved sister and the cherished Aunt “Nonie” to generations of nieces and nephews. If she called you “kid” or “hon,” you knew you had found a special place in her heart.

Nothing brought her greater happiness than her family, especially her grandchildren. She eagerly anticipated becoming a great-grandmother and lovingly embraced the title of “Gigi,” a role she treasured beyond measure.

A woman of unwavering Christian faith, Nonie faithfully served both her church and her community. She was a charter member of Knoxville Community Church, where she dedicated more than 30 years as church treasurer.

She also was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 40-plus years, faithfully serving as both secretary and treasurer. Her life was a shining example of humble service, steadfast faith and unconditional love.

To know Nonie was to know a woman whose strength seemed endless. She carried the burdens of others without complaint, celebrated every joy as if it were her own and loved with her whole heart.

She was, in every sense of the word, the family’s Wonder Woman – a faithful wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and Gigi, trusted friend and the steady foundation upon which generations of her family were built. Her legacy of faith, love and family will continue to guide those who were blessed to call her their own.

Visitation and funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, July 23, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation to begin at 11 a.m. and the services to follow at noon. Services were to begin with an Order of Eastern Star service, followed by the funeral.
