Crowley wins trap, archery awards at fair
Ty Crowley was pleased with the grit he saw from his son Hunter July 11 at the Ray County Fair.
Hunter Crowley, a member of the Millville 4-H Club and soon-to-be high schooler at Excelsior Springs, competed that morning in trap shooting and archery on the county fairgrounds in Richmond. The younger Crowley received the Best in Show award for ages 14-18. He also secured third places overall for both archery and shooting sports, confirmed Amanda Cringan, coordinator for Ray County’s 4-H shooting sports program.
The trap shooting event was his first time to shoot at 100 clay pigeons in a competition, he said. Before then, 50 had been his most attempts, said the younger Crowley, who’s in his fourth year of participating in shooting sports and his fifth in 4-H.
As the event progressed, Hunter Crowley could feel the effects of firing a single-barrel shotgun 50 more times than usual, he acknowledged.
