The Richmond News, June 26, 2026

Shirley Anita Judd, 89, of Richmond passed away Saturday, June 13, 2026, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City.

Shirley was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Ray County, the daughter of Aubrey Kenneth and Anna Mae (Davis) Lee.

She was united in marriage to Floyd Judd of Henrietta on May 25, 1957. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2024.

Survivors include her daughter, Marcia Judd of Richmond. Many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Elaine Judd; and sister, Linda Sharon Perks.

Shirley was raised and educated in the area of her birth, and graduated from Richmond High School.

She built a life centered around faith, family and hard work. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother and raising her family, she worked right alongside her husband on the farm. Whether it was cutting hay, plowing, tending the garden or doing whatever needed done, Shirley never shied away from hard work. Her family joked that there wasn’t much the boys could do that she couldn’t – except she never ran the combine.

When the work was finished, Shirley enjoyed keeping her hands busy. She had a special talent for crocheting and lovingly passed that gift down to many family members. Countless babies were wrapped in blankets she made, and many family homes were warmed with her handmade afghans. She also enjoyed crafting and creating things for those she loved.

Shirley had a deep love of country music and spent time helping at Leland Jones’ Country Music Hall. She and her husband enjoyed many years of making memories together. They spent nearly 20 years wintering in Texas as snowbirds and enjoying camping along the way.

Shirley also was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan. She looked forward to cheering them on each season. Above all else, Shirley loved her family and found joy in caring for others. She was of the Baptist faith and lived a life marked by devotion, generosity and quiet strength. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shirkey Hospice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, June 25, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and the services to follow at 2. Burial was to be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
