Arnold, Renfro, Richardson round out ’26 HOF class
As the Richmond News reported, the 2026 class of the Richmond Spartan Athletic Hall of Fame included members of the 2003 varsity football team and standout prep athletes of the 1980s.
It also included a pioneer in the history of Richmond track and field, a state wrestling champion, and a longtime coach and teacher.
Jim Arnold, a 1962 graduate, was the trailblazing track star. Per the program from the induction ceremony, Arnold was the first-ever Richmond track athlete to secure a state medal. Specifically, he was the school’s first individual state champion, winning the Class B mile run his senior season. As program notes also state, Arnold ran on two state champion relay teams that season as well.
Jody Anderson, Arnold’s daughter, introduced Arnold during the ceremony, held recently in the Richmond High School commons area. She recalled that her dad didn’t discuss his life much when she and her sister were young.
