Founding Fathers dolls return
Tina’s Toys & Dolls will host a special community program, “Lili Baitz’s Founding Fathers and the Stories They Tell,” at 7 p.m. on July 3 at 111 North Thornton Street in Richmond. The event is free and open to the public.
In commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, the program will center on a rare group of Founding Fathers dolls created in 1926 by Austrian artist Lili Baitz for an American department store’s celebration of America’s 150th anniversary. Nearly 100 years later, the dolls remain an important connection to history, patriotism and remembrance.
Baitz was a talented Austrian artist whose work reached international audiences before much of her story was overshadowed by the devastation of World War II and Nazi persecution.
“This project began with a group of long-forgotten dolls,” said Owner Tina O’Connor. “It has transformed into a meaningful connection between art, history, liberty, remembrance and one woman’s extraordinary talent. These Founding Fathers dolls…
