Public comments spark election concern discussion

Ray County officials recently discussed concerns tied to alleged contact with election equipment during the April election. The discussion came during public comments before the Ray County Commission after Kurt Croix, a candidate for Ray County clerk, asked why election volunteers were allegedly questioned about his presence while he observed the April election. “They said they got a call from the county and questions about me being there,” said Croix. “I’m wondering, why was there a problem that I was at the election trying to see what was going on, or why did that happen? Because they felt like they got in trouble from the county.” Presiding Commissioner Shelia Tracy noted she was not familiar with the specific circumstances before asking Ray County Clerk Heather Maulsby to address the matter. “When it comes to elections like that, nobody is allowed to touch the election equipment or be even around election equipment, unless you’re sworn in as an election judge,” said Maulsby. …
