Gridiron glory celebrated at HOF ceremony

The 2003 varsity football team provided bookends for the 2026 Richmond Spartan Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Dan Lanning, a member of that squad, was the first of six individuals inducted during the June 6 event, held in the Richmond High School commons area. Following Lanning’s induction – and those of Scott Acree, Jim Arnold, Lisa Crowley Halterman, Daniel Renfro, the late John Richardson and Daryl Robinson – the 2003 team was honored. Richmond alumnus Steve Minnick, whose son Logan played on that team, introduced Lanning. The elder Minnick said Lanning, now the University of Oregon head football coach, didn’t need introducing because of Lanning’s local celebrity. Nevertheless, he spoke for several minutes about Lanning – largely out of necessity. Unable to attend in person because of recruiting business in Oregon, Lanning opted to participate via two-way video call. Technical issues, however, delayed his induction speech.
