County response to audit recommendations questioned

A recently released Missouri State Auditor follow-up report prompted questions about Ray County’s progress in addressing recommendations from a 2023 audit. Resident Kurt Croix questioned commissioners during a recent meeting about findings contained in the report, including recommendations regarding Sunshine Law compliance and closed meetings. Ray County’s progress in addressing findings from a 2023 audit was labeled “poor” — the lowest rating possible — in a follow- up report released by Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick. The follow-up review was conducted to assess the status of selected recommendations. While the follow-up found improvements in several areas, including controls and procedures within the Ray County Sheriff’s Office, auditors determined some recommendations remained only partially implemented and others had not been implemented.
