Council backs Blue Shield effort for police department

Richmond city leaders are pursuing continued participation in Missouri’s Blue Shield program as officials seek future grant opportunities tied to law enforcement funding and public safety initiatives. Council members approved a resolution allowing the Richmond Police Department to apply for Blue Shield designation, a statewide program launched under Gov. Mike Kehoe that recognizes communities supporting law enforcement recruitment, retention and public safety efforts. The action, taken during a recent meeting, also allows the city to pursue grant opportunities tied to equipment and training funding. According to city documents, the statewide program was launched under Gov. Mike Kehoe to recognize communities committed to law enforcement support and public safety initiatives. In 2025, 201 Missouri communities received Blue Shield designation and later qualified for grants of up to $50,000 for law enforcement equipment and training.
