School relay records fall at district track meet

CHILLICOTHE – The day after graduating from Richmond High School, Cyrus Jackson celebrated by helping his alma mater qualify for sectional track and field competition in two relay races. He also helped set two school records. Running the anchor leg at Class 3 District 8 competition May 9 at Chillicothe High School, Jackson propelled the Spartans to victory in the boys 800-meter relay. Jackson then ran the anchor leg for Richmond’s 400 relay team, which placed second. With those finishes, Jackson and teammates Malikiah Tharp, Brice Dome and Treyton Alexander secured spots in both events at the Class 3 Sectional 4 meet, scheduled for Saturday at Lafayette County of Higginsville. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association regulations, the top four finishers in each event at districts qualified for sectionals.
