RHS netters edge Odessa, secure winning duals record

Richmond will have a winning duals record this spring in varsity boys tennis. The Spartans are 9-7 entering the duals or “team” portion of the Class 1 District 4 Tournament, slated to run May 4-6. The last time the program finished above .500 was in 2018, when Richmond went 7-5, according to Missouri State High School Activities Association records. “I think it’s a really good sign for the program,” coach Zachary Baldauf said April 24. “We have a good, strong team this year. We should, hopefully, have a strong team next year, with a lot of returning players.” The boys helped secure their winning season by taking five of their last six regularseason duals, including three straight last week. After opening the week by sweeping Carrollton 9-0 April 20 on the road, the Richmond boys crushed Holden 8-1 April 23, also on the road; and concluded by edging Odessa 5-4 April 24 at Maurice Roberts Park.
