Council clears way for Mushroom Festival, 250th celebration
Local residents can expect two upcoming community celebrations after officials authorized permits and street arrangements for the events.
Richmond City Council members approved permits during a recent meeting for the 45th annual Mushroom Festival and a June 13 celebration tied to America’s 250th anniversary.
The annual Mushroom Festival, scheduled for April 30, May 1 and May 2, was approved by the group.
According to city documents, the festival is operated by Friends of the Farris, Inc., which submitted the required permit materials and insurance documents. Organizers estimated attendance at approximately 5,000 people.
Festival organizer Sherry Smith noted the event continues to grow each year with expanded vendors and attractions.
“Lots of vendors are coming, with lots of different food vendors,” stated Smith. “It seems to get a little bit bigger every year.”
