Smith finalizes deal with Baker
At last, Norborne Hardin-Central varsity 8-man football coach Andrew Watson knows what it’s like to see one of his players sign a letter of intent to play college football.
As the Richmond News recently reported, Hardin-Central senior Gage Smith has signed to play at Baker University, an NAIA-affiliated school based in Baldwin, Kan. On March 18, a signing ceremony was held in the Hardin-Central C-2 schoolhouse gym for Smith and Ester Kincaid, who signed to play women’s basketball at the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kan.
“Obviously, it’s exciting. When I came in, these two athletes were both just little eighth-graders,” Watson said minutes after the two signings. “And so, it’s been exciting watching them grow from squirrelly little middle school kids to grown adults and getting ready to go out to that next level.”
Baker was among a handful of schools Smith considered before becoming Watson’s first college signee. Smith said he also considered Northwest Missouri State…
